Happy (belated) birthday, You Watanabe!
At first, you grabbed my attention because of your design. Your design is simple, but it has elements that show off who you are pretty well. Your hair looks windswept – like a style that someone that loves being out on the sea would have. (It’s not the most extreme case of boat hair, but still.) It’s also reminiscent of a cut that many sporty girls have – short, tousled, and aerodynamic. That coupled with the poses you tend to do show that you’re a spunky, fun-loving girl.
When I found out about your role in the anime, it cemented you as a favorite. You were supportive of Chika because of your history together. You went along with her silly school idol idea so you could remain close, but when Chika started getting closer to Riko, you felt pangs of jealousy because you felt left out. I’ve been in that situation before, and it made me sympathize with you. Making friends is hard enough, but maintaining a friendship when a friend finds someone new to spend their time with while you’re left hung out to dry is the worst. I’m glad that you were able to move past that point and become good friends with Riko.
Other things that make you so endearing include your encouraging, gung ho nature, your love for uniforms, your attention to detail (as expected from a costumer), and your playful nature. Totsuzen GIRL is great because, like the other birthday solos, the lyrics embody many of your wonderful traits.
You’re one of my former best girls, and the reason you aren’t one of my best girls anymore is, admittedly, a pretty petty one. I kept getting cards – namely URs – of yours in SIF back-to-back, and I got tired of seeing you when I was going for other characters whose cards I was lacking in an attempt to raise bond points. So…I’m really, really sorry for that, haha. (I shouldn’t have been so salty when they were still very nice cards.)
That said, I still love many things about you! Keep on being the encouraging, caring, seafaring motivator that you are! Zensoku zenshin…yousoro! 🛳
